Norwegian Cruise Line announced on August 12, 2026, the opening of bookings for more than 450 cruise voyages on its fleet of 20 ships, including new sailings departing from Galveston, Texas. The announcement includes an End of Summer promotion offering 50 percent off bookings with the deal expiring August 18, 2026. Some cruises also include up to $750 in onboard credit and compatibility with the Free at Sea program, which provides additional onboard perks.

Deployment and Itinerary Details

The Norwegian Prima, which has nearly 3,200 passenger capacity and debuted in Galveston in 2023, will operate seven-day Western Caribbean cruises from Galveston. These cruises feature

calls at Harvest Caye, Norwegian’s private island resort in Belize. The Norwegian Viva will return to Galveston on October 31, sailing routes that include Cozumel, Mexico; Roatán, Honduras; and Harvest Caye, with its final sailing of the season from Galveston beginning April 3. Meanwhile, the Norwegian Escape is scheduled to start sailings from Galveston in November, although the exact year has not been specified.

Port of Galveston Lease and Terminal Use

Norwegian Cruise Line signed a 10-year lease agreement with the Port of Galveston in October 2024, including multiple renewal options. The cruise line shares the modern Terminal 16 facility at Galveston with MSC Cruises, which operates

year-round sailings from the same terminal.

Market Performance and Investor Outlook

Bank of Montreal Capital Markets issued an investor report ranking Norwegian Cruise Line with a “market perform” rating and a $21 per share price target. This places Norwegian fourth in investor appeal, behind Viking, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. The report highlighted that Norwegian’s premium cruise niche, positioned between Royal Caribbean and Viking, may constrain growth. It also noted challenges including lagging financial results and activist investor involvement but acknowledged favorable industry trends. Norwegian’s plans to launch 16 new ships by 2037 and ownership of luxury brands Regent and Oceania underscore ongoing investments.

Industry Context and Competitive Positioning

The announcement

coincides with Carnival’s cancellation of several summer and fall 2027 cruises from its Galveston-based ship Jubilee. This has opened opportunities for lines such as Norwegian to expand itineraries and attract bookings for 2028. Norwegian’s deployment strategy focuses on premium Caribbean itineraries from the Texas port, reinforcing its aim to distinguish itself in the market through private island destinations like Harvest Caye and Great Stirrup Cay.

Booking Incentives for Travelers

Travelers booking Norwegian cruises through the End of Summer promotion benefit from half-price fares and onboard credit options up to $750 on select sailings. The Free at Sea program offers additional amenities such as unlimited

open bar access, free Wi-Fi, and excursion credits, enhancing the value proposition for passengers departing from Galveston.
