Norwegian Cruise Line has launched bookings for more than 450 voyages across its 20-ship fleet, including new Caribbean sailings from Galveston planned for the 2028 summer season. The company is offering a 50% discount on bookings made by August 18, 2026, as part of its End of Summer promotion. Some cruises also provide up to $750 in onboard credit and participation in the Free at Sea program, which features perks such as free Wi-Fi and unlimited open bar.
Designated Ships and Caribbean Routes from Galveston
The Norwegian Prima will return to Galveston in 2028 to operate a series of seven-day Western Caribbean cruises. The Prima, which can
carry nearly 3,200 passengers, will include stops at Harvest Caye, Norwegian’s private island destination in Belize. Scheduled to reappear at Galveston on October 31, 2027, the Norwegian Viva will offer seven-day itineraries to Cozumel, Mexico; Roatán, Honduras; and Harvest Caye in Belize. Additionally, the Norwegian Escape is set to commence sailings from Galveston starting in November 2027.
Port of Galveston Lease and Terminal Sharing
In October 2024, Norwegian Cruise Line secured a 10-year lease for Terminal 16 at the Port of Galveston. This terminal is shared with MSC Cruises, which maintains year-round operations from the port. The lease includes multiple renewal options, supporting Norwegian’s expanded presence at
this regional cruise hub.
Market Opportunity Following Competitor Changes
The announcement of new 2028 cruises coincides with Carnival’s cancellation of several sailings on its Galveston-based ship Jubilee for 2027. Carnival’s schedule adjustments have created openings for Norwegian to increase its footprint in the Texas cruise market. The timing aligns with prevailing economic conditions that typically allow travelers to save for vacations in advance.
Industry Analysis and Market Positioning
Bank of Montreal Capital Markets assigned Norwegian Cruise Line a “market perform” rating with a $21 per share target price, reflecting a neutral stance. The report cited concerns about Norwegian’s results trailing peers, activist involvement, and challenges competing against better-established rivals. It
noted that “Norwegian raises the most questions in the cruise space, considering results are lagging peers, activist involvement, and a tough backdrop against well-oiled competitors.” The analysis acknowledged Norwegian’s appeal as a premium cruise line positioned between Royal Caribbean and Viking, stating, “the numerous steps to full recovery are keeping us on the sidelines for now.” The report also identified Norwegian as occupying “a narrower premium niche that may be limiting growth” but pointed out ongoing investments in private island resorts and planned fleet expansion as potential growth drivers.
Passenger Benefits and Expanded Sailing Options
Travelers booking from Galveston for the 2028 season will have access
to new options featuring seven-day cruises to Western Caribbean destinations, including Belize, Mexico, and Honduras. Norwegian’s End of Summer promotion provides incentives such as a 50% booking discount valid through August 18, 2026, onboard credit of up to $750 on select voyages, and eligibility for the Free at Sea program, which offers amenities like unlimited open bar and excursion credits.
