At around 6.15am on August 28, 2026, initial reports indicated a person was hit by a train near Bentley station, Doncaster. This prompted emergency responses and raised concerns about safety on the Leeds to Doncaster rail line.
Police Response and Confirmation of Near Miss
The British Transport Police were dispatched to Bentley station following the incident report. After conducting a thorough search of the area, officers confirmed the event was a near miss rather than an actual collision involving a person on the tracks. Subsequently, all lines were reopened to traffic.
Impact on Rail Services and Passenger Advice
The incident caused significant disruption to train services between Leeds and Doncaster throughout August 28. LNER
reported major delays and advised passengers to check service status before traveling. Although all lines resumed operation, some delays persisted for the remainder of the day due to the earlier disruption.
LNER issued statements acknowledging the disruption, attributing the initial confusion to reports of trespassers on the railway. The operator apologized for the inconvenience while cautioning that service disruptions were expected to continue through the day.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said, “We were called to Bentley station at around 6.15am this morning (28 August) following reports of a possible casualty on the tracks. Officers attended and conducted a search
of the area and it was confirmed to have been a near miss.”
An LNER representative added, “Following reports of trespassers on the railway, the incident has now been confirmed as a near miss and all lines have reopened. Some services may still be delayed due to earlier disruption. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
