SITA and Qatar Airways have launched the Fast Pass biometric system at Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar, connecting over 700 biometric touchpoints into a unified passenger journey. Travelers enroll in Fast Pass once through the Qatar Airways mobile app or self-service kiosk, allowing their faces to replace boarding passes from check-in through to aircraft boarding.
Dubai International Airport (DXB), handling more than 95.2 million passengers by 2025, operates the Red Carpet Smart Corridor using Paravision’s facial biometrics technology, enabling simultaneous processing of over 10 travelers. Emirates Airline deployed over 200 biometric boarding cameras at DXB in 2017, enhancing passenger flow.
Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport has installed facial recognition biometrics across five of nine passenger touchpoints, while Etihad Airways currently tests facial identity verification for both boarding and lounge access. Al Maktoum International Airport plans to implement an AI-powered biometric ecosystem designed to optimize passenger services and traffic.
Beyond the Middle East, Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport in Kazakhstan prepares to trial biometric passenger registration, featuring self-service check-in and electronic passport use. Vietnam’s Noi Bai International Airport introduced biometric check-in kiosks at Terminal T1, which process approximately 2,000 to 3,000 travelers daily, improving check-in times and overall passenger experience. In Nigeria,
the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is implementing V-Pass, a facial recognition biometric system developed with Verxid and Barnksforte Technologies, to monitor passenger movement and enhance identity verification.
Regional passenger growth drives investment in biometrics. The Middle East expects 240 million passengers in 2026, prompting deployments to improve terminal throughput and security. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates biometric verification can reduce passenger processing times by up to 40%. The upcoming Airport Show 2026 in Dubai will showcase biometric and other next-generation aviation technologies. Market forecasts project the biometric technology sector to reach $150.58 billion by 2030 and
airport biometric services to reach $276.56 billion by 2032. By 2027, 75% of airports worldwide are expected to integrate biometric systems at multiple journey points.

Despite expanded biometric adoption, challenges remain in establishing scalable, interoperable systems. According to Asian Aviation, biometric passenger processing is well past experimental stages but few models have advanced to broad interoperability. Unresolved issues include governance, liability, funding, and ownership. The next phase requires strategic alignment and governance frameworks to deliver coordinated biometric ecosystems. Nonetheless, digital travel credentials worldwide are projected to
exceed 1.2 billion passenger users by 2035, underlining strong momentum for biometric integration globally.
