The Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) 2026 is set for October 6 to 8 at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, expecting more than 10,000 delegates from roughly 40 countries. This marks the largest attendance in the expo’s history, reflecting a 30 percent increase over the 7,691 delegates recorded in 2025.
Expo Theme and Sector Focus
The 2026 edition of MKTE will feature over 400 exhibitors alongside more than 250 vetted international buyers. The event’s theme, “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” highlights the integration of digital innovation, artificial intelligence, big data, digital payments, and immersive technologies to enhance tourism competitiveness.
Special emphasis
will be placed on Kenya’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, with dedicated sessions led by the Kenya MICE Club, Kenya MICE Association, and collaboration with government and private sector stakeholders to develop competitive bidding packages for international business events.
Official Perspectives on Tourism Strategy
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei explained the programme’s design is heavily informed by data and consumer demand intelligence. “Every element of this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence,” she said, adding the marketing campaigns are tailored to convert traveler interest into arrivals.
Kenya MICE Association
Chair Duncan Muriuki described MICE as the “next frontier” for tourism revenue, emphasizing the ambition to attract high-value business events that generate significant economic impact through competitive bidding and a strong value proposition.
Government Reforms Supporting Tourism Growth
Raymond Cheruiyot, Chair of the Tour Operators Society of Kenya, pointed to government reforms easing visa access and expanding air connectivity as foundational to sustaining tourism expansion. “The Government’s efforts to improve visa access and expand air connectivity have created a strong foundation for tourism growth,” Cheruiyot said.
He also identified MKTE as an essential platform for promoting Kenya’s diverse tourism products and building international partnerships to
drive higher visitor arrivals and revenue growth.
Event Programming and Industry Impact
The three-day expo programme will include seminars, business-to-business meetings, and familiarisation trips aimed at strengthening industry partnerships and generating trade opportunities. Organisers intend to showcase how digital tools and smart destination management can increase Kenya’s tourism competitiveness while supporting inclusive growth.
MKTE 2026 continues to reinforce Kenya’s status as East Africa’s premier travel trade event, aligning with World Tourism Day 2026’s global focus on digital transformation within the industry.
