The 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) will take place from October 6 to 8, 2026, at the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in Nairobi, Kenya. The three-day event will gather travel and tourism stakeholders from East Africa and beyond. Akwaaba African Travel Market will be among the exhibitors at MKTE 2026, which carries the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” emphasizing how technology is redefining destination exploration, management, and booking.
Akwaaba’s Role in Promoting African Travel
Akwaaba has operated for 22 years, consistently participating in major global travel fairs such as the World Travel Market in
London, EMITT in Istanbul, ITB Berlin, and others across Africa including Uganda’s Pearl of Africa Travel Expo, Tanzania’s Kilifair Expo, Zimbabwe’s Sanganai, and South Africa’s Travel Indaba. The organization made its debut appearance at MKTE in 2025 and will return in 2026 as an exhibitor. Akwaaba primarily promotes intra-African travel by connecting tour operators, hospitality providers, aviation professionals, and other travel industry players within the continent.
Network Reach and Prestigious Recognition
Akwaaba attracts over 3,000 tourism professionals representing more than 20 African countries. Its events have drawn high-profile attendees including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Gambian President Dawda Jawara.
The organization hosts annual events such as the Africa Travel 100 Awards, the African Medical Tourism Expo, and the West African Jollof Rice War. In 2022, Akwaaba received an Award of Excellence from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, UN Tourism, and the Nigerian Ministry of Tourism.
