The 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo will be held from October 6 to 8, 2026, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. The three-day event expects participation from more than 10,000 tourism delegates and industry professionals representing over 40 countries. The expo will feature over 400 exhibitors and more than 250 international buyers, consolidating Kenya’s position as a key player in the East African travel market.

Kenya’s Target of Five Million International Visitors

Kenya aims to reach five million international tourist arrivals annually by 2027. Central to this strategy is leveraging digital transformation through artificial intelligence, big data, and smart destination solutions. These technologies will enhance

visitor experience and streamline administrative processes. The 2026 expo emphasizes these elements to showcase Kenya as a modern, smart tourism destination integrating innovation and sustainable practices.

Focus on MICE Sector Growth

The expo puts significant focus on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector to increase tourism revenue. The Kenya MICE Club leads discussions promoting Kenya’s competitiveness in global business events. Duncan Muriuki, Chairman of the Kenya MICE Association, said, “MICE is the next frontier for growing tourism revenue. Our focus is not just on increasing visitor numbers, but on attracting high-value business events that deliver greater economic impact.” Kenya’s world-class conference facilities in

Nairobi and Mombasa support this effort.

Government Support through Visa and Connectivity Improvements

The Government of Kenya has enhanced visa access and expanded air connectivity to strengthen the tourism environment. Raymond Cheruiyot, Chairman of the Tour Operators Society of Kenya, noted, “The Government’s efforts to improve visa access and expand air connectivity have created a strong foundation for tourism growth.” These initiatives facilitate easier entry for international visitors and increase regional and global linkages crucial for Kenya’s tourism expansion.

Travel and Industry Impact

Visitors and business travelers attending the expo are advised to book flights and accommodation well in advance due to the influx of over 10,000 delegates in Nairobi during

early October 2026. The event promotes the use of registered local guides, ensuring tourism expenditures support community and conservation projects. The smart tourism model implemented will ease digital payments, booking, and itinerary planning while encouraging sustainable activities such as eco-tours and community walks.

June Chepkemei, Kenya Tourism Board CEO, stated, “Every element of this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence. We know what the interests of our visitors are and what it takes to convert interest into arrivals.” She highlighted the expo’s role in advancing Kenya’s tourism

innovation and international partnerships.

The Magical Kenya Travel Expo remains East Africa’s premier travel trade platform, reflecting increasing global interest in Kenya’s tourism products and investment opportunities. The event’s integration of digital transformation and MICE sector growth aligns with Kenya’s broader tourism expansion strategy set to enhance its global market positioning.
