Train services at London Marylebone station have faced cancellations and delays starting August 17, 2026, caused by ongoing track safety inspections. The delays have resulted in some journeys being cancelled or delayed by as much as 45 minutes.

Affected Routes and Track Blockage

The track section between West Ruislip and South Ruislip in west London is blocked for safety inspection, causing disruption on multiple routes. Services between Birmingham Snow Hill, Birmingham Moor Street, Stourbridge Junction, Stratford-upon-Avon, Banbury, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Oxford, and London Marylebone are affected.

Background and Investigation

The safety inspections follow two passenger train derailments near London the previous week, which occurred amid a heatwave with

temperatures exceeding 38C. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) and Network Rail are conducting investigations. Extreme heat is known to cause steel rails to expand and buckle, increasing the risk of derailment.

Official Statements and Passenger Guidance

A Chiltern Railways spokesperson said, “We are sorry to announce that due to a safety inspection of the track between the Bicester area and Haddenham & Thame Parkway, services on the lines towards Oxford, London and the West Midlands, may be cancelled or delayed.” National Rail confirmed the line between West Ruislip and South Ruislip is currently blocked and advised passengers to check the latest service information and

allow extra time for travel.

Passengers using Chiltern Railways services should expect disruption until the end of August 17, 2026. Travelers are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and consider alternative arrangements where possible.
