Kenya will host more than 10,000 delegates from 40 countries at the 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) 2026. The three-day event will take place at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi from October 6 to October 8, 2026, marking an approximate 30 percent increase from the 7,691 delegates recorded at MKTE 2025.
Key Organizers and Leadership
The expo is organized by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), led by Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei, the Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK) chaired by Raymond Cheruiyot, and the Kenya MICE Association, headed by Duncan Muriuki. These entities drive the event’s agenda and strategic partnerships
that boost Kenya as a tourism destination.
Focus on Digital Innovation and MICE Sector
MKTE 2026 will showcase more than 400 exhibitors and over 250 quality-vetted international buyers under the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism.” The event will emphasize digital innovation tools such as artificial intelligence, big data, immersive technologies, digital payments, and smart destination applications. It will also spotlight the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, regarded as a critical driver for increasing tourism revenue in Kenya.
Public-Private Partnerships and Government Reforms
The Kenya MICE Club collaborates with government and private sector stakeholders to promote Kenya as a preferred international business events destination. Efforts
include developing competitive bidding packages with destination incentives, as stated by Kenya MICE Association Chair Duncan Muriuki. Additionally, government reforms to simplify visa access and expand air connectivity support these initiatives, strengthening Kenya’s tourism infrastructure and global market positioning.
Official Statements on Strategic Tourism Development
KTB CEO June Chepkemei affirmed, “Every element of this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence.” She added that marketing efforts align with traveler motivations to convert interest into arrivals.
Duncan Muriuki highlighted the MICE sector’s economic impact, saying, “MICE is the next frontier for growing tourism revenue… We
are working with government and the private sector to develop competitive bidding packages that include destination incentives and a compelling value proposition.” TOSK Chair Raymond Cheruiyot acknowledged the government’s role, stating, “The Government’s efforts to improve visa access and expand air connectivity have created a strong foundation for tourism growth.” He described MKTE as a vital platform to showcase Kenya’s tourism offerings and foster international partnerships.
Industry Impact and Business Traveler Opportunities
The expo will facilitate seminars, business-to-business meetings, and familiarization trips to encourage partnerships and new trade opportunities within the tourism sector. Kenya’s modern facilities and robust “bleisure” offerings in Nairobi and Mombasa encourage business
travelers to extend their stays. The event serves as a central hub for stakeholders to advance Kenya’s tourism growth driven by innovation and global collaboration.
