The 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) will take place from October 6 to 8, 2026, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kenya, hosting over 10,000 delegates from 40 countries. The event is set to feature more than 400 exhibitors and upwards of 250 international buyers, marking a 30 percent attendance increase compared to the 7,691 delegates recorded in 2025.

Expo Theme Focuses on Digital Transformation and AI

MKTE 2026 will operate under the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” aligning with the global emphasis of World Tourism Day 2026. The event will explore how digital innovation—including artificial intelligence, big data,

immersive technologies, digital payments, and smart destination management—can advance tourism growth across Kenya and the African continent.

Kenya Tourism Board Highlights Data-Driven Approach and Partnerships

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO June Chepkemei underscored that every segment of the expo, from buyer selection to seminar content, is guided by consumer data and market intelligence. She stated, “We know what the interests of our visitors are and what it takes to convert interest into arrivals. Our marketing campaigns both domestic and international are built on that evidence, and MKTE is the platform where we bring those insights to life for our partners.” Chepkemei also emphasized the role of strong public-private

partnerships between government agencies and private stakeholders as central to Kenya’s tourism growth strategy.

MICE Sector Integral to Tourism Growth Strategy

The event will emphasize Kenya’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, a key area for increasing tourism revenue. Duncan Muriuki, Chair of the Kenya MICE Association, said, “MICE is the next frontier for growing tourism revenue. Our focus is not just on increasing visitor numbers, but on attracting high-value business events that deliver greater economic impact.” He noted that through the Kenya MICE Club, competitive bidding packages incorporating destination incentives are being developed in collaboration with government and private sector partners.

Government Reforms Support Tourism Expansion

Chairman of the Tour

Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK), Raymond Cheruiyot, highlighted government reforms that have improved visa access and expanded air connectivity, creating a solid foundation for tourism growth. He said, “MKTE provides a vital platform to showcase Kenya’s diverse tourism offering, build strategic partnerships, and position the country more strongly on the global tourism map.” According to Cheruiyot, the private sector remains committed to working alongside government to convert these opportunities into higher visitor arrivals and sustainable revenue increases.

Additional Features and Tourism Targets

MKTE 2026 will also feature seminars, business-to-business meetings, and familiarization trips designed to strengthen partnerships and stimulate trade opportunities within the tourism sector.

Organizers aim to leverage technology and smart destination management tools to enhance Kenya’s competitiveness. The expo supports Kenya’s national goal of attracting five million international visitors by the end of 2027.
