The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported a 3.4% decrease in global air travel demand for April 2026 compared to previous months. This decline is linked to disruptions arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region.

Heightened tensions have led to the closure of airspace over several Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Lebanon. These closures have resulted in widespread flight cancellations and operational challenges for airlines in the area.

Airlines based in the Middle East have experienced a particularly sharp decline, with demand dropping by approximately 46.6% amid the disruptions. The

combination of restricted airspace and increased cancellations has influenced global aviation traffic patterns and contributed to the overall reduction in passenger volumes reported by IATA.
