Hyatt Hotels Corporation purchased the Hotel Arizona in downtown Tucson, a property vacant since 2012. The long-abandoned hotel, located adjacent to the Tucson Convention Center, is set for redevelopment under Hyatt’s new plans announced on July 31, 2026.
Hyatt intends to renovate the site and open the Hyatt Regency Tucson Convention Center hotel in late 2027. The new hotel will feature 291 guest rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a pool area, and approximately 22,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, including a large ballroom and multiple breakout rooms.
The project is a joint development effort between Hyatt Hotels
Corporation, HSL Properties, and Desert Hospitality Management. The hotel will be Hyatt Regency’s first in Tucson and will occupy the former Hotel Arizona site next to the Tucson Convention Center in downtown Tucson.
Omar Mireles, president of HSL Properties, said the investment shows confidence in Tucson’s growth. He stated the Hyatt Regency Tucson Convention Center hotel is “poised to become a premier destination for meetings, conventions, business travelers and leisure guests seeking an elevated hospitality experience in the city’s vibrant urban core.” Mireles added that the project will act as a catalyst for convention business, tourism, and economic development in
Tucson.
The new hotel aims to replicate the positive impact Hyatt’s Phoenix convention hotel, Hyatt Regency Phoenix, had on downtown Phoenix since its opening 50 years ago. Hyatt’s Arizona portfolio already includes over 25 properties, such as the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort and the Royal Palms Resort & Spa. The Tucson development marks a strategic expansion of Hyatt’s presence in Arizona through redevelopment of a long-abandoned site.
