Heavy rain on 23 July 2026 caused rivers beneath bridges on the Western Railway network in Maharashtra’s Palghar district to rise above danger levels, resulting in significant train disruptions. Train movement on Bridge No. 203 between Umargam Road and Gholvad was halted at 4:43 am and resumed at 6:50 am with a 15 kmph speed restriction. Additional operations were suspended on Bridge No. 230 in Sanjan Yard and Bridge No. 284 between Udvada and Vapi due to flooding.
Train Cancellations, Short-Terminations, and Diversions
Western Railway canceled 52 trains, short-terminated 46 services, and diverted 19 trains following the flood-induced disruptions. The affected cancellations included key long-distance
trains such as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express, Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Express, Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express, Virar-Valsad Passenger, and Bandra Terminus-Surat Intercity Express. The Surat-Mumbai Central Flying Rani was short-terminated at Udhna station, and the Surat-Virar Express was curtailed at Valsad station.
Suburban Route Service Affects
Local suburban services experienced adjustments, with the Churchgate-Dahanu Road local train terminating early at Vangaon. Services on the section between Vangaon and Dahanu Road were canceled entirely. Additionally, the return Dahanu Road-Borivali local service started from Vangaon instead of Dahanu Road, reflecting ongoing operational restrictions.
Safety Monitoring and Service Resumption
Western Railway deployed senior officials and engineering teams to monitor water levels and inspect tracks
and bridges at the affected locations. The authority has stated normal train operations will recommence only after floodwaters subside and the route is confirmed safe. Until then, speed restrictions and service alterations remain in place to ensure safety.
The flooding led to slower train movements and delays across the impacted routes. Passengers traveling on Mumbai-bound trains faced cancellations, rerouting, and early terminations due to the water logging that forced regulatory action on the Western Railway network.
