On 23 July 2026, heavy rainfall in Maharashtra’s Palghar district caused rivers below railway bridges on the Western Railway network to rise above danger levels, disrupting services between Dahanu Road and Valsad. At 4:43 am, train movement was halted on Bridge No. 203 between Umargam Road and Gholvad. Services resumed at 6:50 am but operated under a strict speed limit of 15 kmph. Train operations were also suspended on Bridge No. 230 in Sanjan Yard and Bridge No. 284 between Udvada and Vapi as water levels surged past critical marks.
Train cancellations, short-terminations, and diversions
The flooding forced Western Railway to cancel 52 trains, short-terminate
46 services, and divert 19 others. Major cancelled trains included the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express, Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Express, Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express, Virar-Valsad Passenger, and Bandra Terminus-Surat Intercity Express. Among the services affected en route, the Surat-Mumbai Central Flying Rani was terminated early at Udhna, while the Surat-Virar Express concluded at Valsad. Additional trains were regulated to reduce congestion in the affected segments.
Suburban and operational response
Suburban rail services on Western Railway’s northern section also faced disruptions. The Churchgate-Dahanu Road local was truncated at Vangaon, with all trains between Vangaon and Dahanu Road cancelled. The return Dahanu Road-Borivali local train started from Vangaon in
place of its usual origin. Western Railway deployed senior officials and engineering teams to continuously monitor water levels and inspect track and bridge safety measures. Authorities stated normal train operations would resume only after floodwaters recede and the route is certified safe.
