Hamad International Airport in Doha and Qatar Airways launched Fast Pass in July 2026, a biometric travel solution that allows passengers to complete their departure process using facial recognition rather than presenting travel documents repeatedly. Passengers can enroll in Fast Pass through self-service kiosks at Hamad International Airport or the Qatar Airways mobile app before departure.
Biometric Touchpoints Across Departure Journey
Fast Pass connects more than 700 biometric touchpoints inside Hamad International Airport. Dedicated biometric-enabled lanes are available at multiple passenger checkpoints including check-in, bag drop, security screening, and boarding gates. The facial recognition procedure at each stage takes only a few seconds, which helps
accelerate passenger flow and reduce processing times.
Voluntary System with Support for Traditional Checks
Participation in Fast Pass is optional. Travelers who prefer to use conventional document checks can continue accessing standard processing lanes. Airport staff members are stationed throughout the process to assist passengers as they navigate the biometric system, ensuring a supported transition for all users.
Partnership and Industry Context
The system was developed in partnership with SITA, an airport technology specialist. The launch of Fast Pass aligns with Hamad International Airport’s Innovation Roadmap, which focuses on modernizing passenger processing through advanced digital technologies while maintaining security and data privacy. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the
majority of travelers now prefer biometric identification over physical documents due to speed and convenience.
Traveler Benefits and Future Expansion Plans
Fast Pass is designed to reduce congestion during peak travel periods by shortening document verification times and streamlining passenger flows. Hamad International Airport plans to expand the biometric system to cover additional touchpoints and make the service available to other airlines operating at the airport beyond Qatar Airways.
