Guangdong province has allocated 30 million yuan for a tourism subsidy campaign running from Friday, September 11, to October 31, 2026, targeting residents of the province as well as visitors from mainland China and overseas. The campaign offers consumption vouchers with a maximum discount of 500 yuan per transaction during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period.
Eligible Travel Services and Campaign Reach
The subsidy applies to a broad range of tourism products, including hotels, homestays, tickets for scenic spots, tour packages, cruises, yacht trips, family tours, educational study tours, and wellness travel catering to senior citizens. Promotions will be implemented through both online and
offline channels to maximize accessibility. Major cities within Guangdong benefiting from increased tourist activity include Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Foshan.
Background and Previous Year Performance
The 2026 subsidy initiative expands on Guangdong’s 2025 program, which allocated 20 million yuan and successfully generated more than eight times that amount in tourism consumption. During the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Guangdong recorded tourism revenue totaling 61.32 billion yuan, marking a 14.2% year-on-year increase, while attracting 65.18 million tourist arrivals.
Travel Connectivity and Economic Impact
Guangdong’s extensive high-speed rail and road infrastructure facilitate convenient travel from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions to the province’s key cities, supporting short
trips that contribute to hotel bookings, dining, shopping, and cultural experience spending. The increased tourism activity is expected to benefit local businesses significantly during the autumn peak season.
The subsidy campaign focuses particularly on stimulating cross-boundary tourism from Hong Kong and Macao residents, encouraging travel to the Chinese mainland during one of the year’s busiest holiday periods.
