Flair Airlines will commence nonstop flights connecting Vancouver International Airport (YVR) with Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) near León, Mexico, starting October 3, 2026. This route marks the first direct air link between Canada and Mexico’s Bajío region. The flights will operate once weekly utilizing Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Direct Access to Bajío’s Cultural Destinations
The new service provides Canadian travelers direct entry to prominent cultural areas of central Mexico without layovers in Mexico City or Guadalajara. From Guanajuato International Airport, overland access is available to key destinations such as León, Guanajuato City, San Miguel de Allende, and Dolores Hidalgo, all popular for their historical and
cultural significance.
Flight Frequency, Fares, and Schedule Considerations
Initially, Flair Airlines will operate the route once per week. Introductory one-way fares start at $189, though prices will vary by date and availability. The limited frequency reduces scheduling flexibility for travelers, increasing the potential need to use alternative hubs or wait for the next weekly flight in cases of delays or cancellations.
Canadian Tourism to Guanajuato and Regional Attractions
Canada contributes over 108,000 visitors annually to the state of Guanajuato, illustrating its importance as a tourism source. The state government promotes the Bajío region’s gastronomy, vineyards, and historic cities as key attractions for Canadian tourists, emphasizing cultural tourism as a major draw.
Tourism-Focused Route Enhances Direct Travel
The Flair
Airlines route offers a stronger tourism-oriented connection compared to standard airport-to-airport services. By bypassing major Mexican hubs, travelers gain streamlined access to some of central Mexico’s most recognized cultural sites, facilitating easier Canadian travel to the Bajío region starting in October 2026.
