Fiji Airways will launch direct services between Nadi and Western Sydney International Airport on March 19, 2027, inaugurating a new route connecting Fiji to Australia’s fastest-growing region.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft Use
The airline will operate three weekly flights on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights will be operated using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Flight FJ991 will depart Nadi at 7:10pm and arrive at Western Sydney International Airport at 10:55pm. The return flight, FJ990, leaves Western Sydney at 11:55pm, arriving in Nadi at 4:55am the following day. The service adds more than 53,000 seats each year on the Nadi-Western Sydney route.
Statements from Fiji Airways and Western Sydney Airport
Paul Scurrah, managing director
and CEO of Fiji Airways, described the Nadi to Western Sydney route as a natural expansion for the airline. He highlighted that Western Sydney is one of New South Wales’ fastest-growing regions and hosts one of the largest Fijian communities outside Fiji.
Western Sydney Airport CEO Simon Hickey welcomed Fiji Airways as the first international carrier to announce services to the airport. He noted Western Sydney’s diversity and rapid growth, emphasizing the new route’s role in connecting the local Fijian community with family and friends in Fiji.
Route Connectivity and Network Expansion
This new direct service complements Fiji Airways’ existing twice-daily flights between Nadi and
Kingsford Smith Airport in Sydney. After the Western Sydney route begins, Fiji Airways will offer up to three flights daily between Fiji and the Greater Sydney region. The schedule provides onward connections from Nadi to other Pacific destinations including Tonga and Samoa.
Background and Travel Impact
The route expansion follows Fiji’s achievement of over one million visitor arrivals during a 12-month period for the first time. July 2026 marked Fiji’s highest monthly visitor arrival figure. Western Sydney’s growing population, including a significant Fijian diaspora, supports demand for direct air services.
Fiji Airways is offering introductory return fares from $899 for travel between March 19
and August 5, 2027, with sales available from September 9 to 23, 2026. The new flights will increase travel options for both tourism and business, enhancing accessibility between Fiji and Australia.
Australia remains Fiji Airways’ largest source market, and the addition of Western Sydney International Airport strengthens the airline’s network connectivity within the region.
