On August 31, 2026, Newark Liberty International Airport experienced significant operational disruptions due to an FAA air traffic control staffing shortage. This shortage affected flight scheduling and air traffic management throughout the day.

More than 1,700 flights faced delays, while 115 flights were cancelled at Newark Airport on August 31. The disruptions represented one of the largest impacts on flight operations for the day.
