A shortage of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control staff caused substantial delays and cancellations at Newark Liberty International Airport on August 31, 2026.

More than 1,700 flights were delayed and 115 flights were cancelled at Newark Airport on that date. The staffing shortfall led to significant disruption of flight operations and affected numerous travelers arriving at and departing from the airport.
