This marked the second consecutive day of weather-related flight disruptions at both airports.
FAA Lifts Ground Stops in Late Afternoon
The ground stop at DFW International Airport was lifted by 4:23 p.m. The ground stop at Dallas Love Field was lifted shortly after at 5:15 p.m., allowing flights to resume operations at both locations.
Delays and Flight Impacts at Dallas Airports
Prior to the FAA lifting the ground stops, departure delays averaged about 90 minutes at DFW Airport and 75 minutes at Love
Field. All flights destined for North Texas were prevented from taking off while the advisory was in effect.
DFW Airport serves as the central hub for American Airlines, based in nearby Fort Worth. Dallas Love Field functions as the home base for Southwest Airlines, which operates 18 of the airport’s 20 gates. Ground stops are a traffic management measure to control the flow of air traffic, particularly significant in the Dallas region due to the high volume of commercial and private flights.
