The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 11 a.m. to noon on October 30, 2026, alongside a departure delay notice affecting departing flights. The actions resulted in significant disruption with hundreds of flight delays and cancellations reported at the airport.

Thunderstorms Cause Flight Disruptions at Phoenix Sky Harbor

Thunderstorms moving into the Phoenix metropolitan area early on October 30 disrupted air travel at Sky Harbor, prompting the FAA to manage air traffic flow through the ground stop and departure delay. Passenger delays averaged up to 75 minutes earlier in the day, reducing to 60 minutes by 1 p.m., while several

flights were canceled as part of the disruption.

Flight Data Shows Extended Delays and Cancellations

According to the Phoenix Sky Harbor website, as of 2 p.m. local time, 245 upcoming flights were delayed and three were canceled. FlightAware data reflected broader impacts with 503 flight delays and four cancellations involving both arrivals and departures at the airport. The ground stop affected flights arriving from the Southwest and Pacific Coast regions to Phoenix airport.
