The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop on July 16, 2026, at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas Love Field due to thunderstorms. The ground stop prevented flights destined for North Texas from taking off until the advisory was lifted.
This was the second consecutive day these North Texas airports experienced weather-related disruptions. Ground stops are a measure used to control airport traffic, particularly disruptive in the Dallas-Fort Worth region given the high volumes of daily commercial and private air traffic.
Ground Stop Lift Times and Delays at DFW and Love Field
The FAA lifted the ground stop at DFW by 4:23 p.m. and at Love Field
by 5:15 p.m. on July 16, 2026. Departure delays during the ground stops averaged 90 minutes at DFW and 75 minutes at Love Field.
DFW is the central hub for American Airlines, which is based in nearby Fort Worth. Dallas Love Field is the primary base for Southwest Airlines, which operates 18 of the 20 gates at the airport.
