The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at Houston’s Hobby Airport on September 3, 2026, halting departing flights starting at 3:45 p.m. The ground stop at Hobby Airport was scheduled to last until 5 p.m. Earlier that same day, a ground stop was issued at George Bush Intercontinental Airport but was lifted around 2:15 p.m. Both ground stops suspended departures due to severe thunderstorms linked to remnants of Tropical Depression Edouard moving across Texas.

thunderstorms continuing Thursday afternoon with main threats of heavy rainfall and gusty winds as Tropical Depression Edouard’s remnants moved across Texas.

Flight Operations Impacted by Weather Ground Stops

Flight operations at Houston’s two major airports were disrupted by the FAA-issued ground stops. Departing flights at Hobby Airport were held during the ground stop period causing delays. Earlier, the ground stop at George Bush Intercontinental Airport also caused flight disruptions before it was lifted at around 2:15 p.m.
