The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed ground stops at multiple major U.S. airports on August 4, 2026. These ground stops triggered extensive disruptions, resulting in widespread flight cancellations and delays across the country.
United Airlines faced a severe nationwide technical outage on the same day, which contributed to the overall disruption. The combined effect of the FAA ground stops and United’s technical issues led to more than 2,000 cancellations of flights within the United States.
