Evening storms on Sunday led to 148 canceled departures and 124 canceled arrivals at
O’Hare. American Airlines issued flexible rebooking waivers for travelers scheduled through O’Hare on Sunday to manage disruptions.

FAA ground stops on Sunday, August 9, affected Chicago Midway, Denver International, Las Vegas International, and Tampa International airports as well. Severe weather on August 7 and 8 centered on John F. Kennedy International Airport caused nearly 2,000 flight cancellations nationwide, primarily impacting New York area airports. On August 11, FAA maintained ground stops at Newark Liberty International, JFK, and LaGuardia airports, with over 930 flight cancellations reported in the New York metropolitan area.
