The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2026, at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport due to thunderstorms. This marks the second consecutive day of weather-related disruptions at these major North Texas airports.
Flights destined for North Texas were prevented from taking off until the FAA lifted the ground stops. The ground stop at DFW International Airport was lifted by 4:23 p.m. local time, while the stop at Dallas Love Field Airport ended by 5:15 p.m.
Departure delays followed the ground stops, averaging 90 minutes at DFW International Airport and 75
minutes at Love Field. These delays were significant amid high volumes of commercial and private air traffic concentrated in the region.
DFW International Airport serves as the central hub for Fort Worth-based American Airlines. Dallas Love Field is the home base for Southwest Airlines, which operates 18 out of the airport’s 20 gates. Disruptions at these airports affect thousands of flights daily, compounding the impact of weather events like today’s thunderstorms.
