On November 7, 2026, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) held 12 airports across the United States under 18 delay programmes. The worst-hit airport was Newark Liberty International (EWR), where peak maximum delays reached 569 minutes under ground delay programmes.
Airports, Programme Types, and Delay Durations
The 12 affected airports included LaGuardia (LGA), Boston Logan International (BOS), Newark Liberty International (EWR), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Harry Reid International (LAS), Orlando International (MCO), Miami International (MIA), Philadelphia International (PHL), San Diego International (SAN), Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), Boeing Field (BFI), and Teterboro (TEB).
Among the 18 programmes, there were 2 ground stop programmes, which hold departures bound for an airport at their origin; 6 ground delay programmes, which meter arrivals by assigning later departure times; and 10 general arrival/departure delay information programmes.
The longest lasting programme was a ground stop at LaGuardia, which spanned 19 hours and
20 minutes from 01:00 to 20:20 UTC. Despite the long duration, its peak average and maximum delays registered at zero minutes. Boston Logan had a shorter ground stop due to runway construction lasting 20 minutes in the evening (19:20 to 19:40 UTC).
Ground delay programmes were significant at several airports. Newark experienced a 4-hour ground delay programme due to thunderstorms, with peak average delay of 156 minutes and peak max delay of 569 minutes. Boston Logan’s ground delay programme for runway construction lasted 9 hours and 20 minutes, with peak average delay of 148 minutes and max delay of 399
minutes. Other ground delay programmes with notable peak average delays included LaGuardia (174 minutes) and Boeing Field (187 minutes).

Delay Causes and Their Frequency
The FAA cited runway construction-related reasons as the primary driver of delay programmes, mentioned in 50 programmes (31 with “runway construction” plus 19 with the code “RWY:Construction”). Thunderstorms ranked next, causing 18 delays, followed by weather-affected traffic management initiatives with 16 instances. Other reasons collectively accounted for 14 programmes.
Cause details specific to airports highlight volume and weather as primary reasons at LaGuardia, runway construction driving Boston Logan and Miami delays, and thunderstorms affecting Newark and LaGuardia. Traffic Management Initiatives responding
to weather were also reported at JFK, Philadelphia, LaGuardia, and Teterboro.
Comparison to Previous Days and Averages
The 12 airports affected on November 7 match the recent 7-day average of 12.1 airports but represent a decrease compared to 16 airports affected on the previous day. Similarly, the 18 programmes observed are down from 25 programmes recorded yesterday. This day was not the worst in the recent tracking window for either airport count or programme intensity.
Methodology. travelandtournews.com samples the FAA’s National Airspace System status feed every 20 minutes throughout the US operating day and aggregates the result. This report is built from 68 samples taken between
00:00 and 22:20 UTC on 2026-11-07. Durations are the observed window between the first and last sample in which a programme was in force, so a programme’s true length may be slightly longer than shown. Ground stops, ground delay programmes, airport closures and general delays are all published by the FAA in real time; the daily aggregation is ours.
