On November 7, 2026, more than 1,331 flights were delayed and 59 flights cancelled at U.S. airports amid widespread travel disruptions, according to flight tracker FlightAware. Globally, over 11,413 flights were delayed and 548 cancelled by 10 a.m. EST on the same day.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported thunderstorms and low clouds as the primary weather factors causing these disruptions. Affected U.S. airports include Boston Logan International Airport (BOS); New York’s JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark Liberty (EWR) airports; Philadelphia International Airport (PHL); and Washington, D.C. area airports including National (DCA), Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), and Dulles (IAD). Low clouds were
also noted at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) as a source of delays.
Passengers experiencing delays or cancellations are advised to monitor their flight status through airline websites or mobile applications regularly. Keeping essential items in carry-on luggage is recommended due to the potential length of delays. Additionally, travelers connecting through busy airports should allow for extra time between flights. Reviewing refund and rebooking policies prior to departure can help mitigate the impact of sudden schedule changes.
Eryn Gordon, founder of Earth to Editorial and TedX speaker on ethical travel, recommended treating cancellations as solvable planning challenges rather than emergencies.
Gordon advised travelers to screenshot rebooking policies before heading to the airport and cautioned against accepting the first available seat without verifying the connection logistics, as this can result in being stranded overnight at a connecting airport with luggage delayed on another plane.
FlightAware’s real-time tracking highlights the extent of flight delays and cancellations occurring on November 7, reflecting significant weather-related disruptions across major U.S. airports. The FAA’s warnings confirm that thunderstorms and low clouds played a critical role in impeding flight operations during the morning hours.
