Explora Journeys officially welcomed EXPLORA III to its fleet during a naming ceremony held in Barcelona in July 2026. The ship was named by its godmother Cristina Ozores, a marine educator and National Geographic Educator. Key speakers included Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Group’s Cruise Division Executive Chairman; Anna Nash, Explora Journeys President; and José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona.
EXPLORA III Outlines Physical and Onboard Enhancements
Delivered ahead of schedule by Fincantieri, EXPLORA III is the largest vessel in the Explora Journeys fleet and its first powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Measuring 63 feet longer than the previous EXPLORA I and II ships, it
features the highest ratio of public space per guest. The ship offers an expanded collection of Ocean Penthouses and Ocean Residences, including two Owner’s Residences at 3,391 square feet each.
New and upgraded venues enhance guest experience, such as The Conservatory Pool & Bar, a redesigned Crema Café, an Outdoor Cigar Lounge, and a Malt Whisky Bar.
Midpoint of Fleet Growth with Future Ships in Progress
EXPLORA III’s debut marks the halfway point of Explora Journeys’ fleet development plan. Ships EXPLORA IV, V, and VI are currently under construction at various shipyards. The addition of EXPLORA III reflects the cruise line’s commitment to expanding its ultra-luxury ocean travel offerings
with a focus on space and guest wellbeing.
Company Statements on EXPLORA III’s Significance
Anna Nash described the naming ceremony as a momentous occasion for the brand. She emphasized that EXPLORA III was designed as a destination itself with an enhanced emphasis on space, design, gastronomy, and holistic wellbeing. Nash stated, “Naming EXPLORA III is a momentous occasion that reflects both the trajectory of our fleet and our steadfast commitment to shaping the future of ultra-elegant ocean travel.” She added, “Conceived as a destination in her own right, EXPLORA III brings to life an even more generous expression of space, design, gastronomy and holistic wellbeing, with
every detail encouraging the presence and connection that defines our unique Ocean State of Mind.”
Preview Cruise and Passenger Experience
Following early delivery, EXPLORA III conducted a five-night preview cruise from Genoa to Civitavecchia before relocating to Barcelona for its naming event. The ship will serve select itineraries, providing luxury cruise passengers with upgraded accommodations and amenities. Entertainment at the naming included a performance by legendary disco group Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge.
