Europe is experiencing significant air travel disruptions in late May and June 2026 following strike actions across multiple countries. Portugal is set for a nationwide strike on June 3 that could result in the cancellation of up to 500 flights alongside interruptions to public transport. This follows a general strike in Italy on May 29 which led to more than 1,150 flight cancellations affecting close to 180,000 passengers.
Flight Disruptions Span Across Several Countries and Airlines
Besides Portugal and Italy, other European countries including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria are also facing delays and cancellations as a result of ongoing labor unrest.
Key airports impacted by these disruptions include Lisbon Airport, Milan Airport, Amsterdam Airport, Zurich Airport, London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester.
The strikes are affecting flights operated by major carriers such as easyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, and Finnair. Passengers traveling on both domestic and international routes serviced by these airlines should anticipate delays and potential cancellations during this period.
