Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) implemented a ground stop and subsequent ground delay starting at 5:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time on July 13, 2026, in response to inbound thunderstorms moving into the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the ground stop expired at 7:15 p.m., but the ground delay remained active and was expected to continue until 11:59 p.m. departures from the airport faced delays ranging from 60 to 169 minutes.

Weather Conditions Affecting Operations July 13

The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office forecast a high temperature near 97 degrees on July 13 with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1

p.m. Wind speeds were expected to be light during the afternoon, shifting from south-southwest to east-southeast. The probability of precipitation increased to 60% late Sunday evening, with showers and possible thunderstorms most likely before 10 p.m. Rainfall accumulations were forecast between 0.1 and 0.25 inches, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorm areas.

Impact on Travelers and Flight Operations

Passengers departing from DFW on July 13 encountered delays of one to nearly three hours due to the FAA’s flight restrictions triggered by the thunderstorms. Both arrivals and departures were disrupted as the airport implemented the ground stop and extended ground delay to ensure aircraft safety amid volatile

weather conditions. These operational constraints directly affected flight schedules through the evening.

Weather Forecast for Following Days

Temperatures were predicted to moderate slightly on July 14, with a high near 94 degrees and a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly beginning after 10 a.m. The Dallas-Fort Worth region expected highs near 93 degrees on July 15 and 16 with a reduced 20% chance of afternoon storms. Dry weather was forecast to return towards the end of the week, with highs near 95 on July 17, rising to 97 on July 18 and 99 degrees on July 19.

The FAA confirmed that the ground stop

at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport expired at 7:15 p.m. on July 13, but the ground delay remained in effect until 11:59 p.m. to manage continued weather impacts.
