Delta Air Lines has permanently ended nonstop flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to three major U.S. hubs that were paused in June 2026 due to rising fuel and operational costs. The airline confirmed the route cancellations as part of routine network planning by late July 2026.

A Delta spokesperson apologized for the disruption and stated that affected customers will be contacted directly to arrange alternative travel options. Passengers impacted by the cancellations can rebook flights on Delta’s nonstop services from nearby LaGuardia Airport (LGA), which continue to operate routes to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis.

Refunds are also available for canceled JFK flights.

New Nonstop Route From Raleigh-Durham to Southwest Florida

Beginning November 21, 2026, Delta will launch a new nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), North Carolina, and Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), near Fort Myers. The carrier plans to operate the route using a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet, adding a new destination from RDU just ahead of the Thanksgiving travel period.

Introduction of Basic Fares for Premium Seating

Delta recently expanded its pricing options by introducing a “Basic fares” tier for first class and business class seats. This new fare level offers some premium benefits—such as Zone 1 boarding and access to 180-degree lie-flat seats on select

aircraft—at a lower price point, potentially saving travelers up to $200 compared to standard first-class tickets. The change aligns with industry-standard trends aimed at making premium seating more affordable.

Official Statements From Delta

Delta Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Joe Esposito highlighted the fare tier expansion, saying it “gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products.” The airline spokesperson added, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will contact affected customers directly to discuss alternative travel options.”
