On July 16, 2026, the U.S. Coast Guard carried out a medical evacuation of a 51-year-old female passenger from the Carnival Luminosa cruise ship approximately 45 miles offshore of Humboldt Bay, California. The operation was initiated after the passenger developed symptoms consistent with a stroke, and a crew member requested urgent medical assistance around 5:10 p.m.

Coast Guard Response and Evacuation Details

The Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay in response to the emergency call. Despite adverse weather conditions with winds near 40 mph and seas between 8 to 10 feet, the helicopter crew successfully

hoisted the passenger from the vessel.

Medical Treatment and Cruise Resumption

The passenger was transported to Mendocino Coast Hospital in Fort Bragg, California, for further treatment. Officials later confirmed that she was in stable condition. After the evacuation, Carnival Luminosa resumed its scheduled itinerary without reported delay, demonstrating the effectiveness of emergency protocols in place for cruise operations off the U.S. West Coast.
