Carnival Cruise Line announced on October 8, 2026, that its Carnival Freedom vessel underwent a funnel height reduction to allow access to additional ports. The modification was carried out during a 35-day dry dock at Chantier Naval de Marseille in Marseille, France.

Alongside the funnel change, the dry dock included redesigning the ship’s casino with over 100 new gaming machines. The video arcade and retail areas were updated, accessibility improvements were made throughout the ship, and a new “From Sea to Shining Sea” crest was added on the bow.

Carnival Freedom returned to service on October 9, 2026, departing from

Barcelona, Spain, on an eight-day Mediterranean cruise. This voyage is set to be followed by a 13-day Carnival Journeys transatlantic trip before the ship returns to Florida.

The ship is scheduled to arrive at Port Canaveral on October 30, 2026, where sailings will operate through May 2027. Afterward, Carnival Freedom will relocate to Norfolk, Virginia, arriving on May 23, 2027. From Norfolk, itineraries will include six-day Bahamas cruises to Celebration Key, Nassau, and Bimini, six-day Bermuda cruises, eight-day Eastern Caribbean cruises with stops at Amber Cove, Grand Turk, RelaxAway, and Half Moon Cay, as well as Canadian sailings visiting Halifax,

Sydney, Saint John, or Charlottetown. Reservations for the 2028-29 Norfolk season with departures through April 2029 are now open.

Carnival Freedom experienced two prior funnel fires: one in May 2022 while docked in Grand Turk and another in March 2024 near the Bahamas. The funnel was replaced during a 2023 dry dock in Cádiz, Spain, due to the first fire, and repairs were made after the second incident.

Carnival stated that the shortened funnel enables Carnival Freedom to enter more ports previously inaccessible because of height restrictions, though the company did not specify which ports or the precise height reduction

achieved.

The specific ports now accessible and the exact height reduction of the funnel were not disclosed by Carnival Cruise Line.
