Carnival Cruise Line unveiled the Carnival Destiny as its largest ship ever during a steel-cutting event in mid-July 2026 in Monfalcone, Italy. The 230,000-gross-ton megaship is the first in Carnival’s Ace class and will accommodate more than 8,000 passengers at full capacity.

Design and Features of Carnival Destiny

The Carnival Destiny will exceed 200,000 gross tons, making it the first Carnival ship in history to reach this size. It emphasizes outward-facing design elements, featuring over 4.5 acres of glass including multi-story glass walls and a reimagined lanai deck. The ship offers expanded ocean-view balcony cabins and integrates more than 70% new concepts across dining venues, bars,

lounges, entertainment, and attractions to enhance guest experience.

Legacy and Shipbuilding Partnership with Fincantieri

Sharing its name with the original Carnival Destiny, built by Fincantieri in 1996, the new vessel continues a legacy of innovation. The original ship was the first cruise ship worldwide to surpass 100,000 gross tons and was rebranded as Carnival Sunshine in 2013 after refurbishment. Fincantieri has delivered a total of 76 ships for Carnival Corporation over three decades, including vessels across eight cruise lines.

Itineraries and Fleet Expansion

Carnival announces that the Destiny’s itineraries will include destinations from its Paradise Collection such as the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Celebration Key, RelaxAway, and Half Moon Cay. Concurrently,

the Excel-class Carnival Festivale will debut at Port Canaveral, Florida, and become Carnival’s largest ship in service before being surpassed by Carnival Destiny’s 2029 arrival. By 2027, Carnival plans to operate a fleet of 30 ships.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, stated, “Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea. With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again, creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”
