Carnival Cruise Line held its steel-cutting ceremony for Carnival Destiny on July 10, 2026, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This event launched the construction of the first ship in Carnival’s new Ace Class fleet, with its debut scheduled for summer 2029.
Carnival Destiny: Size and Capacity
Carnival Destiny is designed as a megaship with a gross tonnage of 230,000 and can accommodate approximately 8,000 guests. It marks a major expansion of Carnival’s fleet with next-generation cruise vessels.
Ship Design and Passenger Experience
The ship will feature an unprecedented number of ocean-facing balcony cabins, the highest in Carnival’s history. It includes a reimagined lanai deck and incorporates more than
4.5 acres of glass, with extensive multi-story glass walls intended to provide constant ocean views for passengers.
More than 70% of Carnival Destiny’s onboard venues and attractions are new concepts for the cruise line, spanning dining, bars, and entertainment, reflecting Carnival’s commitment to delivering new guest experiences.
Legacy and Future Plans
The name Carnival Destiny revives the legacy of the original vessel launched in 1996, which was the world’s largest cruise ship at that time and later refurbished into Carnival Sunshine in 2013. The new ship aims to redefine cruising with enhanced designs and amenities.
Carnival has plans for two additional Ace Class sister
ships, with deliveries targeted for 2031 and 2033. Carnival Destiny will primarily serve destinations within the Paradise Collection portfolio, which includes exclusive locations in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said, “Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea.” She added, “With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”
