Carnival Cruise Line officially began construction on its next-generation vessel, the Carnival Destiny, with a steel-cutting ceremony held on July 10, 2026, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This event marked the start of building the inaugural ship in Carnival’s new Ace class fleet.
Timeline and Fleet Expansion for Carnival Destiny and Ace Class
Carnival Destiny is scheduled to debut in summer 2029 as the first of three planned Ace class ships. Carnival plans to launch two additional vessels in this class, with expected delivery years set for 2031 and 2033. The Ace class represents Carnival Cruise Line’s modern approach to large-scale cruise ships starting construction from 2026 onward.
Design Innovations and Onboard Features of Carnival Destiny
The Carnival Destiny will feature a record number of ocean-facing balcony cabins, setting a new benchmark for passenger accommodations in the cruise industry. The design includes a reimagined lanai deck and incorporates more than 4.5 acres of glass, including expansive multi-story glass walls intended to enhance ocean views continuously throughout the ship.
More than 70% of the ship’s venues and attractions will be new concepts for Carnival. These include next-generation dining options, bars, entertainment experiences, and vibrant outdoor spaces developed to elevate the onboard atmosphere and leisure experience for guests.
Operational Routes and Legacy of the Carnival Destiny Name
Upon completion, Carnival Destiny will operate within Carnival’s Paradise Collection
portfolio, which covers exclusive destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico. The ship’s name references the original Carnival Destiny, which was once the largest cruise ship in the world, signaling a continuation of legacy alongside technological and experiential advancement.
Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy highlighted the ship’s transformative potential on the cruise experience, stating, “Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea. With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”
