Cardiff Queen Street train station will be closed for three days from Saturday, July 25, to Monday, July 27, to allow National Rail staff to carry out engineering works.
During the closure, no trains will run to or from Cardiff Queen Street. All services to Cardiff Bay will be cancelled. Coryton train services will also be suspended for the full three days, while Penarth services will not operate on Saturday or Monday but will run on Sunday. Additionally, trains serving Treherbert, Merthyr Tydfil, and Aberdare will be diverted along the city line between Cardiff Central and Radyr. Rhymney to Cardiff
Central services will be replaced entirely by rail replacement buses. Trains from Bridgend and Barry Island to Rhymney will continue to operate but will start and terminate at Cardiff Central.
To accommodate passengers affected by the suspension, rail replacement shuttle buses will run between Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, and Cardiff Bay during the early mornings and late evenings on Saturday and Monday. On Sunday, the replacement bus service will be available only during the late evening. Tickets valid for train services to Cardiff Bay and on Coryton routes will be accepted on Cardiff Bus services during the closure period.
Additional replacement buses will operate on the route between Cardiff Central and Radyr, calling at Llandaf, Cathays, and Cardiff Queen Street throughout the three days.
Transport for Wales has warned that replacement buses may experience higher-than-normal passenger volumes and recommends travelers allow extra time for their journeys. The authority has urged passengers to check for route disruptions and plan their travel in advance to avoid delays.
