The California High-Speed Rail Authority has awarded a contract valued at $3.5 billion to a consortium led by Kiewit for the installation of track and systems along the Central Valley segment of the state’s high-speed rail project. This contract approval was finalized in early June 2026 and marks a significant step in advancing the construction of the region’s rail infrastructure.
Focused specifically on the Central Valley portion, this contract includes the deployment of the first fully electrified high-speed rail track segment in the United States. The initiative consolidates track laying and electrification efforts as part of the state’s plan to
realize a true high-speed rail line capable of operating at full speed. Construction activity associated with this contract is anticipated to take place throughout 2026.
