The California High-Speed Rail Authority has authorized a contract valued at $3.5 billion for the installation of electrified track and related systems along the state’s high-speed rail corridor. This contract will initiate the construction of the first true high-speed rail track in California designed to connect major urban centers with electric rail transport.

Coinciding with this approval, the authority appointed a new board chair who serves as an adviser to Governor Gavin Newsom. This leadership change aligns with the commencement of operational track laying, representing a notable milestone in advancing the state’s long-term rail infrastructure development.

The designated consortium selected

by the board will be responsible for the detailed installation work of the track and systems. While specific timelines for passenger service are not yet disclosed, beginning the track laying phase is seen as a critical step forward for the project.
