A man fell overboard from the Ambassador Cruise Lines vessel MS Ambition on Friday, 21 August 2026 at 08:35. The incident occurred about 36 nautical miles from Arbroath in the North Sea off the east coast of Scotland.
Search Operation Involving Multiple Agencies Recovers Body
Police Scotland reported receiving the overboard alert around 8:55am and coordinated an extensive search and rescue effort. Lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews, as well as coastguard aircraft from Prestwick and Carlisle, joined the operation. A commercial search and rescue helicopter also participated. The body of the missing man was recovered during the

The MS Ambition was returning to Dundee after a solar eclipse cruise with scheduled stops in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Prior to docking in Dundee on the day of the incident, the ship had made a call at Lerwick. Passengers experienced a delay in disembarking but were permitted to leave the vessel around 11:30. The missing man’s luggage remained on board and his bed was reportedly unused.

search and rescue operation, carried out by police and partner agencies, has been ongoing and a body has been recovered.” The formal identification of the body was pending at the time, and the man’s family had been informed. The MS Ambition was formerly chartered by the Scottish government to provide temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees. Following the incident and the Dundee port call, the ship departed for Newcastle later on the evening of 21 August.
