Officials and Delegation on Inaugural Flight

State Minister

for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali inaugurated the route at Dhaka Airport with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special prayers before the flight. Present at the event were RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism, Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and representatives from the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka. The inaugural flight carried about 70 passengers, including a large delegation comprising officials from Biman, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), as well as their family members. The flight

cost Biman Bangladesh Airlines approximately BDT 4 crore.

Scheduled Commercial Flights to Begin in June 2026

Biman Bangladesh Airlines announced the March 26 flight as an experimental commercial service ahead of scheduled operations. According to State Minister Md Mahbub Ali, regular commercial flights on the Dhaka-Toronto route will commence from June 2026 with three weekly flights. This service start is contingent on the completion of boarding automation processes at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Scheduled service will provide direct nonstop connectivity between Dhaka and Toronto, marking the world’s second longest direct flight route after Singapore-New York.

Official Statements and Flight Purpose

Md Mahbub Ali emphasized the trip’s role in inaugurating Biman’s office in Canada

and noted that operating this route represents a matter of national prestige for Bangladesh. The launch coincided with the country’s 50th Independence Day and Golden Jubilee celebrations. Dr Md Mahbub Jahan Khan, Director of Corporate Planning and Training at Biman, confirmed the inauguration flight’s BDT 4 crore cost during a press event hosted by the Canadian High Commission. The inaugural flight drew criticism for carrying a large, mostly non-paying delegation and incurring high expenses prior to regular service commencement.
