American Airlines relaunched nonstop passenger service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Cap-Haïtien International Airport on November 1, 2026. This route reintroduction marks the airline’s 100th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America, expanding its regional network.

American Airlines originally began flights to Haiti in 1971 but had not operated to the country for over six years prior to this relaunch. The service to Cap-Haïtien, located on Haiti’s northern coast, is staffed by an all-Haitian crew fluent in Creole.

U.S. Government Advisories and Flight Restrictions

The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 travel advisory for Haiti in July 2026, warning against travel due to

risks including crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest, and limited health care. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has extended flight restrictions on U.S. flights landing in Port-au-Prince through March 2, 2027, following attacks targeting aircraft.

While the restrictions target flights to Port-au-Prince, American Airlines’ service to Cap-Haïtien continues unaffected by these FAA limits.

Ticketing and Pricing Details

Tickets for the nonstop Miami to Cap-Haïtien flights are currently available for purchase at American Airlines’ official website, aa.com. One-way fares start at $591.

Airline Network Expansion and Official Statements

José A. Freig, American Airlines Vice President of International Operations, highlighted the milestone stating, “As we celebrate American’s centennial year, reaching a milestone 100

destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America highlights both our rich history and our unmatched footprint in the region.” He also noted the airline’s return to Venezuela as part of its growth in Latin America, reflecting a legacy the company aims to carry forward.

Regional Aviation and Tourism Context

American Airlines became the first U.S. carrier to resume service to Venezuela since 2019, currently flying to Caracas and Maracaibo with plans for a new route to Barcelona, Venezuela starting January 15, 2027. Florida’s tourism sector has seen increases in visitors from Latin American countries including Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico during the first half of 2026,

despite slowed arrivals from Canada.

Other U.S. airlines have expanded Latin American routes this year: JetBlue added Cali, Colombia from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in mid-October; Frontier Airlines plans new nonstop flights from Orlando to Colombian cities pending approval; and Delta Air Lines alongside Aeromexico will launch a Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City route in 2027.
