A trackside fire near Clapham Junction on 27 September damaged signalling equipment, disrupting Southern and Gatwick Express train services at London Victoria on 28 September. Repairs continued through Monday with delays and cancellations expected until at least 4pm.

Avanti West Coast rail services will return to public ownership on 7 March 2027 when its contract ends. The move is part of a government plan to nationalise key train operators by 2027.

Alberta will issue a request for proposals in fall 2026 for a high-speed rail linking Calgary and Edmonton with stops at Red Deer, Airdrie, and airports. The project aims for a 1 hour 45 minute trip time and proponent selection by April 2027.
