The FAA issued and later lifted ground stops at Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK airports on July 27 due to staffing shortages and severe weather. As of 4:30 p.m., about 500 inbound flights were delayed and 80 canceled across these airports.

Over 260 flights were canceled at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports as of early morning on July 28, 2026 due to severe storms. FAA ground stops and delay programs remain in effect at New York airports, causing delays at other U.S. hubs.
