American Airlines resumed nonstop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) in Florida and Cap-Haïtien International Airport in Haiti on November 1, 2026. This route restoration marks the airline’s 100th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America sector of its network.

Flight Operation and Service Details

The relaunch ends a hiatus of over six years during which American Airlines did not serve Haiti. The airline operates the Miami to Cap-Haïtien flights with an all-Haitian flight crew fluent in Creole. Tickets are available now through aa.com, with one-way fares starting at $591.

Travel Advisory and Aviation Restrictions

The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 travel advisory against travel to Haiti

in July 2026, citing risks of crime, kidnapping, terrorism, political unrest, and restricted healthcare access. In response to security threats including attacks on aircraft, the Federal Aviation Administration extended flight restrictions on U.S. flights to Port-au-Prince until March 2, 2027.

American Airlines’ Latin American Network and Anniversary

In 2026, American Airlines is marking its centennial anniversary. Earlier that year, it became the first U.S. carrier to resume flights to Venezuela since 2019, currently flying nonstop to Caracas (CCS) and Maracaibo (MAR), with plans to add Barcelona (BLA) on January 15, 2027.

José A. Freig, American Airlines Vice President of International Operations, stated, “As we celebrate American’s centennial

year, reaching a milestone 100 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America highlights both our rich history and our unmatched footprint in the region.” He added, “The continued growth of our network in the region – including being the first airline to return to Venezuela earlier this year – is a reflection of the legacy we’ve built and one we’re proud to carry forward.”

Florida Tourism and Latin America Travel Trends

According to VisitFlorida.org data, visitation from Latin American countries increased noticeably in the first half of 2026. Brazilian visitors to Florida rose by 10.5%, Colombian arrivals grew by 5.3%, and Mexican tourists increased by 4.9% compared

to the previous year.

Several airlines expanded Latin American routes to Florida in 2026 and 2027. JetBlue Airways added Cali as its fourth Colombian destination from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on October 15, 2026, and announced plans for nonstop Fort Lauderdale to Caracas service. Frontier Airlines scheduled nonstop connections from Orlando to Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín, pending government approvals. Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines will launch daily nonstop flights between Mexico City and Fort Lauderdale next year.
