Official Statements and Tourism Recovery Context
Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, said, “In total, the number of foreign tourist visits was 1.43 million, a decrease of 10.79 percent month-on-month, while year-on-year it increased by 2.31 percent.”
He added, “The achievement of foreign tourist visits from January to September 2026 is the highest since 2020,” noting that 2019 figures for the same period stood at 12.10 million. He also said, “This figure has increased compared to the average spending in the previous quarter.”
The recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic has included varying monthly

Indonesia’s tourism sector registered growth in both visitor numbers and spending through the first three quarters of 2026, signaling a steady recovery despite temporary declines in monthly arrivals.
