American Airlines relaunched nonstop service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Cap-Haïtien International Airport on November 1, 2026. This route marks the airline’s 100th Caribbean and Latin American destination, expanding its network in its centennial year.
The flights to Haiti are operated by an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking flight crew. American Airlines had provided service to Haiti since 1971 but had suspended flights for over six years before this relaunch. Tickets are currently available on aa.com, with one-way fares starting at $591.
American Airlines Executive Highlights Network Growth
José A. Freig, American Airlines’ Vice President of International Operations, stated that reaching 100 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin
America underscores the airline’s extensive regional footprint. He added that being the first U.S. airline to resume service in Venezuela earlier in 2026 reflects the legacy American Airlines aims to maintain while expanding its network.
Travel Advisories and Flight Restrictions
The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 travel advisory for Haiti in July 2026, warning against travel due to security risks including crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest, and limited healthcare. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has extended flight restrictions on U.S. flights landing in Haiti’s Port-au-Prince airport through March 2, 2027, following attacks on aircraft.
Regional Tourism and Airline Network Expansion
Florida has experienced increased tourism from Latin American countries
in the early months of 2026. VisitFlorida.org reports visitor numbers rose 10.5% from Brazil, 5.3% from Colombia, and 4.9% from Mexico compared to the previous year. Canadian visitation has slowed due to political tensions affecting travel.
Additional Airline Route Developments in Florida
JetBlue Airways expanded service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport by adding Cali, Colombia as its fourth Colombian destination on October 15, 2026. JetBlue plans to begin nonstop flights to Caracas, Venezuela by the end of 2026. Frontier Airlines aims to launch nonstop routes between Orlando and Colombian cities Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín in December 2026, pending government approval. Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines will
start daily nonstop service between Mexico City and Fort Lauderdale in 2027.
