Two high-speed trains operated by Renfe and iyro collided near the towns of Mora and Orgaz, close to Toledo, just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. This incident marks the deadliest rail crash in Spain since 2013.

Following the collision, all high-speed rail services on the Madrid to Andalusia corridor were immediately suspended. The affected routes include trains serving Ciudad Real, Cordoba, Sevilla, and other destinations along this primary line.

Service Updates from Infrastructure Manager Adif

At 12:40 p.m. on the day of the collision, Adif, Spain’s railway infrastructure manager, reported that limited train operations resumed on certain high-speed sections between Madrid and Toledo,

and between Málaga and Sevilla.

Operator Responses and Cancellations

iyro confirmed the cancellation of all services from Madrid Puerta de Atocha station to the Southern Corridor and indicated there is “no estimated time for the resumption of service.”

Renfe is providing passengers impacted by the disruption with free options to change or cancel their journeys.

Ouigo, the Spanish high-speed rail operator owned by France’s SNCF, coordinated with Adif to cancel all trains scheduled between Madrid and Andalusia on the day of the incident.

Passenger Impact and Official Advisory

The widespread cancellations and delays on the Madrid-Andalusia high-speed line have forced passengers to adjust travel plans. Rail users are advised to consult the latest updates directly from Renfe and iyro before proceeding to depots.

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) issued a travel advisory warning that “significant disruption to rail

services is expected” in Spain. It provided contact details for those requiring assistance: Renfe customer service at +34 900 10 10 20, and for British nationals needing consular support, the nearest British embassy or consulate can be reached at +34 91 714 6300.
